Wow Eli, that’s super interesting. I love learning stuff like this, I have a new respect for Memorial day now!

I couldn’t agree more, Eli. The only thing I would add is that we need to remember our fallen soldiers more than once a year. Their families live with the loss 365 days of the year and it would be good if we often let them know that we are here for them whenever they need us.

The drawing is an absolutely great idea! We do need to remember the ultimate reason for Memorial Day itself: not to think only of shopping malls and sales, baseball games, barbeques, etc., but to honor those who gave their lives for our country. The holiday began as Decoration Day when widows of soldiers who died in the Civil War decorated the graves with flowers. Many years later, the name of the holiday was changed to Memorial Day and that is what should be remembered above all else on that day is that it is a MEMORIAL to those who are no longer with us.
