DIY Photo Frame to Proudly Display on your Mantle

by Emma W.R. on February 19, 2015

Tired of the same boring picture frames sitting on the mantle? Me too! I found a creative and inexpensive way to freshen up that dated décor. You can use the existing frames you already have or pick up a few more to play with. Flea markets and garage sales are a great way to grab a bunch of frames for less than ten bucks! Spray paint can become your best friend. It’s the fastest and easiest way to give that old frame a new look. Chalkboard paint is a great option too. You can personalize it and later erase it for something new.

A few bold frames of various sizes can be arranged into a collage. Glue fabric or an array of objects to a frame. Make it interesting. Use buttons, ribbon, twigs or even rulers. Go for a vintage look with white wash. Lightly sandpaper the paint to age it or use crackle paint from your local craft store.

The ideas are endless. Make something you will be proud to display on that mantle of yours and you can say, “I made that”.

I would like to try the chalkboard paint. It’s versatile and fun to play with. Can’t wait to try it at home!

What I like to do is, buy picture frames at a department store and decorate it myself. I usally buy black, white or brown and use paint or fabric to make it my own so it’s unique! I love creating things, like frames, for around the house with my daughters. It’s a great bonding experience too!

I like that chalkboard frame idea. The options for pictures to put inside are literally endless. Just write a cool phrase for whatever occasion the picture is for and you’re set!

I agree with Amy, I have to try to do this with things around the house. I would definetely go over board.

What a great idea. If I were to do this I would try to do it with things around the house. If I go out buying for stuff, I know I will go over board.
