Why celebrating Father’s Day is a bad idea

by Emma W.R. on June 17, 2015

I am all in for putting a stop to Father’s Day! You may think it’s horrible to say out loud, but I mean it. I can’t take any more bad gifts filling up my husband’s closet and spilling out of the garage. My husband will never throw away a thing and I can’t take it anymore. Please join me in ending this epidemic of awful presents cluttering our home. Step away from the tacky ties and singing fish.

It is bad enough Dad breaks his back to provide for our family every day. Don’t make him put on these dreadful brooms and expect him to actually clean anything.

So your Dad likes to fish…not listen to a singing fish that will drive your family insane!

Do not buy Dad any sort of contraption that encourages him to drink in the shower, out a funnel or load a six-pack of beer on his belt.

There aren’t even words for this…Just don’t.

Awww poor Dad doesn’t even make #1. Don’t buy any T-shirts with any ranking number on them. Grab the kids and spend the day with Dad and leave out the atrocious closet space eating gifts at the store. He knows you love him. A card, a hug and some attention will do just fine.

Just serve your father breakfast in bed and do all the chores, that’s a real holiday for him!

These gifts are actually pretty hilarious; I’d love to see the look on my dad’s face if I got him those Kleen Stride shoes for Father’s Day lol.

Father’s day is such a special day though. I feel that many Dad’s aren’t appreciated as much as Mom’s.

I don’t care what anyone says. I feel that Father’s need this one special day. My dad always laughed about the crazy gifts we gave him.

We always celebrate Father’s Day. The perfect gift for my Dad is a subscription to his favorite magazine or the Beer of the Month Club so he can sample unique beers.

Keep it easy – take dad out for dinner! He may not need anything, but I’m sure he would appreciate a nice meal out with the family. That is what we decided to do this year for all the dads in the family – went out in a big group and had a great time!

My kids ask me what I want for Father’s Day so I know that what I’m getting is something I will like. The fact that I spend the day with them–along with watching the US Open golf championship–is even more important than the gift. I have enough ties, t-shirts, golf shirts, outdoor-grille utensils, screwdriver sets, Giants apparel, etc., to last me a lifetime (which I am already approaching!).

I’m sorry but those Kleen Stride shoes are hilarious. The rake version they show on the box might be my favorite!!

Poor Dad, but like they say “It’s the thought that counts.” As we get older the presents do get better, like taking us out to breakfast, lunch or dinner or all three. Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads, enjoy your gifts.

This is so hilarious and so true! And Dad doesn’t want to throw these gifts out so he doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings. How about having the rest of the family do the barbequing and let Dad sit and relax – I’d bet he’d enjoy that!!
