Why Celebrating Father’s Day is Important

by Emma W.R. on June 8, 2016

Father’s Day is an important holiday to celebrate and honor your father.  It gives us a chance to acknowledge the role of your father in your life.  This holiday is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the United States.  However, Father’s Day is also celebrated all around the world highlighting dads’ contribution to their families.

fatherThe role of a father has changed over the last few decades.  Mothers are no longer the sole nurturer due to the fact that many of them have been forced back into the workforce for financial reasons.  Dads have had to take on a more active role in their children’s’ lives.  A dad is now not just a provider and protector any more.  He is a role model, caregiver, supporter and friend.  Because of all these hats he wears, it is important to give him a special day to be recognized.  Simply put:  Fathers matter!

The paternal bond has a great influence on children.  Over time it has been acknowledged that a father’s influence encourages children to embrace challenges, take risks and be independent while still safeguarding them.  Because of this, children tend to stand up for themselves in difficult situations.  Through studies, it has been found that children with paternal influence are more positively emotional and academically functioning.  On Father’s Day, children can take the opportunity to say “Thank You” for their dad’s positive impact in their lives.  It is, without a doubt, important to celebrate fathers on their own special day.

Father’s are important to a child’s life. Celebrate the ones who are there.

I agree! And it is a nice excuse to get together with family.

It’s ironic that the above was posted by DJ since it was Dustin (DJ) Johnson who won golf’s U.S. Open yesterday, on Father’s Day. Speaking of that special day, my gift from the kids was the golf club every duffer–like myself–cannot do without: a ball retriever. No more underwater groping for me!

I like Father’s Day because I can basically do whatever I want that day and not have to worry about the nagging. Plus, there’s golf’s US Open final round and that’s always exciting to watch (if one likes golf). And, London broil, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and lots of wine make it a day that can’t be beat!

My dad has been asking for a hammock for years. We finally found a great one with a built in canopy and got it for him. Can’t wait to give it to him this Father’s Day!

Father’s Day is going to be great this year. My aunt just bought a shore house and invited everyone over for a big BBQ. Should be a fun time!
