Best Halloween Candy

It’s hard to avoid the bags and bags of candy that seem to be everywhere this time of year. Like turkeys at Thanksgiving, candy is the main course for Halloween. You buy some early in October and promise yourself that you will save it for the trick or treaters. Despite your best efforts and good intentions you will eventually succumb to the temptation and dip into the bag for some sugary goodness.  But what do you go for first??

Believe it or not, Candy Corn is the top selling candy for Halloween. After that comes the usual suspects like Snickers, Reese’s, Kit Kat and M&M’s.  Overall 600 million pounds of candy is sold a year for the American holiday (90 million alone during the week of Halloween). I can’t even imagine what 600 million pounds of candy would look like but I get a stomach ache just thinking about it.

On average, Americans eat as much as 24 pounds of candy a year and I’m pretty sure most of it is consumed in the end of October. After reading that, it really made me think twice about how much candy I was consuming. Thank goodness Halloween only comes around once a year. But soon enough it will be Christmas and we’ll be blaming that weight gain on the Holiday food and spirits.

I’m not one to discriminate when it comes to chocolate, but my all-time favorites are Three Musketeers and Snickers. When my kids get back from trick or treating I will do the customary candy check to make sure everything is okay. Without fail there are always a few Three Musketeers or Snickers that look suspicious enough to be removed from my kids pile and kept on the side so I can take a better look at them (aka eat them later when the kids go to bed).

Definitely a Three Musketeers fan! It’s so simple yet so good!

I usually claim Reese’s Peanut Butter cups from my kids as payment for taking them trick-or-treating. But I was told it’s bad luck to eat any of your own candy before Halloween, which is also a good excuse to hide the candy from the kids leading up to Halloween!

This was such a cute, informative article! I love Skittles! I always buy an extra, small bag to eat in case I get tempted to raid the Halloween supplies.

I am a big fan of Twix. I could eat those all the time.

Reese’s were always what we fought over as kids. People don’t hand them out as much today with the allergies the kids are getting.

My favorite was always Almond Joy. I lucked out because no one else ever liked those when I was a kid.

This year I bought the candy I liked and yes I ate way too much, I finally had the new Reese’s Peanut butter cup with Butterfingers. I never met anyone who ate candy corn, I wonder why it is so popular especially because it isn’t wrapped!
