Aunt Marie’s Famous Banana Bread

by Emma W.R. on November 25, 2015

I am bananas for bananas. Okay, so maybe that isn’t so funny, but the truth is you can always find bananas hanging on my banana tree. I have gotten in the habit of letting 2 or 3 go past the point of delicious to very ripe. Wanna know why? My Aunt Marie gave me her famous banana bread recipe, and it is a great treat.

Ingredients
  1. 2 to 3 very ripe bananas
  2. 1/3 cup melted butter
  3. ¾ cup sugar
  4. 1 egg
  5. 1 tsp vanilla
  6. 1 tsp baking soda
  7. ½ cups all-purpose flour
  8. Optional: ½ cups walnuts or ½ cups chocolate chips or ¼ cups of each.
Instructions
  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. 2. Mash the bananas and mix in melted butter.
  3. 3. Next, add sugar, egg, vanilla, and baking soda. Mix well.
  4. 4. Lastly, blend flour thoroughly.
  5. 5. If you are adding nuts or chocolate chips, you would add them now.
  6. 6. Bake in preheated oven for approximately 1 hour. Do the knife check to make sure your banana bread is cooked through because ovens do vary.
Helpful hints
  1. • Use a bread knife to cut when ready to serve to avoid it from falling to pieces.
  2. • Although it can be served at room temperature, you can heat it up in the oven or microwave briefly to get the freshly cooked feel.
  3. • Top with butter pecan ice cream and hot fudge to make it a special indulgence.
Notes
  1. I hope you all enjoy my Aunt Marie’s banana bread as much as I do. I use both the walnuts and chocolate chips, always serve it warm and always with a tall, cold glass of milk. Cheers!

Is it suppose to be 1 1/2 c flour?
Mine turned out more like a pudding cake…. so incredibly good but not a bread at all?
thanks

I am a huge fan of banana bread, and my sister was big on making it. But her banana bread was just banana bread. I’m going to hand over this recipe to her because this one has more flare than her’s…shhh.

Thanks for the recipe. I love bananas. I will give this a try over the holidays. I prefer it eat my banana muffins shortly after taking them out the oven; I don’t really like anything heated in the microwave. However, I’ve never had them with ice cream. I don’t know why this has never occurred to me before. Butter pecan ice cream sounds perfect!
