Easy Tips To Baby-Proof Your Home

by Emma W.R. on February 17, 2016

Baby proofing your home might seem like a difficult task, but it truly is not with some simple planning! We all want our little loved ones to be safe; here are some easy tips to baby-proof your home.

  1. Secure all televisions/large electronic devices

Who doesn’t have a flat screen TV these days? We are placing TV’s in every room in homes these days. TV’s can pose a severe problem because they can tip over.  Make sure to secure all televisions and most importantly – test that they really are secure!

  1. Keep cords out of reach

With so many electronic devices these days, that means even more plugs, chargers, and cords. Make sure to keep cords high and away from the little ones. If you can’t elevate the cords, hide them under furniture. Also, make sure to use outlet covers, preferably the ones with sliding doors since they are choke proof.

  1. Lock Stove knobs and install window guards

I can’t stress how important this is! The last thing is you want a fire and a burned little one. I’d also suggest locking anything else in the kitchen that could be dangerous. Take a look around your kitchen and the rest of your home and make a list.

All in all, in today’s world, there’s no such thing as a 100% baby proofed house. All of these tips help, but the most important takeaway is keeping in mind that these are just tips. Kids will somehow find a way and surprise us as always –planning and constantly checking on all baby proof steps is essential to having a baby proof home, but so is parental supervision.

Grandparents have a hard time with baby-proofing, especially when it comes to a once in a while visit. It can be very stressful if you don’t remove items you don’t want the children to get into, otherwise you wind up having to discipline them constantly! So often you don’t even realize what the child will get into!

I’ve never seen anything like that shield on the stove in that photo. Interesting. They have something for everything these days! Half the time I can’t even figure out the baby proofing items!

These tips are all very useful because as much as you try, the baby still finds ways to get into trouble. Definitely follow these rules!

They make so many baby-proofing gadgets these days, and you don’t think you need most of it until your baby starts getting into everything! One of the best investments we made was the latch for the toilet seat 😉

Don’t forget that baby-proofing needs to evolve as your sweetie gets more mobile – and gets taller! We went from keeping choking hazards off the floor to needing soft bumpers around the coffee table to moving breakables higher and higher. Baby-proofing needs to grow as your child does 🙂

Better to be safe than sorry… Babies seem to be able to get into everything.

These are all good tips for children. I also lock the cabinets where cleaning supplies are kept.
