Tips For Throwing The Best Kids Birthday Party Ever

by Emma W.R. on June 1, 2016

Anyone that has kids knows that birthday parties are a super important thing in their world!   Kids go into school talking about what they had, what they did and how much fun they had with their friends.  The last thing you want to do is be an “un-cool” parent and throw a lame party for your child.  Here are some helpful tips for throwing the best kids birthday party ever!

First, you always need a fun concept/theme…the theme really depends on your child’s age.  For example, you can go with your child’s favorite cartoon or cartoon character, a general prince or princess theme, a doll and tea party theme, pirate theme, candy land theme, or even if a fun beach theme, with sand and sea shells that you can purchase at your local craft and hardware store. Back in the day when I was a kid, the closest thing to a personalized subject matter was having special helium balloons and a decorated cake!  These days, you can get party favors, piñatas, paper plates, napkins and paper cups that all work into your (or your child’s) birthday theme. My absolute favorite concept that a friend of mine had for her little girl, was a “pet adoption” theme.  It subtly showed kids the wonderful gesture of adopting an animal that needed a home, and the kids went home with a little stuffed puppy, kitten, bunny or bird of their choice, that they “adopted”.  You can find cheap little stuffed animals at many dollar stores, and also a basket where all the pets were placed in, ready to go home with their new best friend!  What an absolutely adorable and compassionate idea!

Your next step should be choosing a location for the kids to enjoy the party.  Where are all these little ones going to go?!  It can be in your basement, so there aren’t little ones running all over your home. You can have a BBQ in your backyard or a pool party theme if you have a pool…and your child’s b-day is in the summer time!

There are also many options available if you want to sit back, relax and not have to worry about prep and clean up.  There are little birthday spots all over now, where you can invite as many kids as you like and they can do arts and crafts, go crazy in a bouncy ball house, kids indoor mini golf, and even indoor party zones that have sports and exercise play areas.  After the kids play or paint they have a little pizza party, complete with snacks and cake!  Some places require you to order/bring in your own food and drinks, while others can provide everything you need for an extra fee per child.  What’s great too, is that sometimes these places give you invitations that you can send out to all on your guest list.  Just be prepared to pay a little more for these parties, as opposed to catering your own, in your own space. Sometimes the tradeoff is worth it though!

Next thing you need is a cake that stands out. This does not necessarily mean paying $200 for a Cake Boss birthday cake, but even making something unique, yourself.  Having a one-of-a-kind cake will definitely make your child feel special.  Here are some great ones I’ve seen along my internet travels:

You can also make cupcakes or even cake pops for all to enjoy!

There are so many options to choose from, and the best thing to know is there are no “right or wrong” birthday bashes.  Just have fun planning and enjoy seeing all the smiles and laughter coming from the kids, on your child’s special day.  Seeing that will ensure you just threw your little one the best kids birthday party ever!

There are many places which specialize in cupcakes and cake pops so no need to fuss. Let them do all the work is what I say. 🙂

I love cake pops until I have to make them. Way too time consuming.

I think too many parents go over the top with parties to impress the adults. The kids are impressed by some cupcakes and pizza. No need to spend a fortune!

We go ALL OUT for our kids’ parties. Luckily our kids were all summer babies and we have a huge pool so it is easy.

Those cakes are phenomenal! I’m not much of a baker, but my sister-in-law can not only bake, but she can decorate them beautifully like in those photos. Saves a lot of money having a talented baker in the family!!

Cake pops are great, but time consuming to make. I’d stick with cupckaes! Quick and the kids will love them.
