Our Favorite Creative Baby Photo Ideas

by Emma W.R. on September 20, 2013

Everyone loves themed photos. What’s cuter than themed photos? Themed photos with babies in them! Here are some of our favorite ways to be creative when it comes to taking those special (and sometimes funny) shots.

1. Lay your child on the ground and have fun making a scene; out in the park (get green and brown blankets to make trees), flying around as a butterfly (take some towels and make a wing silhouette; place baby on top in the middle so it looks like the wings are attached to them, add antennas to their head), or zipping through the air as Superbaby (get some white sheets to make clouds, green or brown for the ground below and a color themed outfit/cape; place baby in a slanted position while laying down with the cape flowing behind them so it looks like they’re flying through the air)

2. Baby safari with stuffed animals everywhere. Put some binoculars in their lap as they stare joyfully at the big elephant plushy. Dress them in some khaki safari wear. Get creative and browse the variety of stuffed animals they have at Toys R Us. The more animals around the better time on safari!

3. Have fun writing word caption bubbles on a poster board and placing your little one on the poster board so that it looks like the word caption is coming out of their mouth. It’s more genuine and artsy done by hand on a poster board as opposed to just writing a word bubble digitally on the computer. Have fun with phrases like “I slept 8 hours last night!” or “Oopsie! I just farted!”

4. Have a favorite pair of boots? Taking a picture of a baby inside a pair of boots is great because it really outlines exactly how small the baby is. Try a pair of cowboy boots or dads used Army boots.

5. Take one of those pictures your husband took of your belly from when you were pregnant. Take a picture in the same pose but this time with your baby in your hands and where your belly was. If the photo of your belly was taken from the front, place the child in your hands in front of your belly and take a picture from the same angle. If your pregnancy picture was from the side, take a picture with the baby in the same spot as your belly and from the same angle, just make sure the baby is sideways so he or she is facing the camera. Upload both pictures and combine them together into one photo with photoshop, or go to your local photographer and have him do it professionally. You can even add a cool caption over each side such as “38 weeks in” for the pregnancy picture and “38 weeks out” for the baby picture.

Keep in mind that you can use your themed pictures for photo birth announcements. That will definitely put a fresh spin on something traditional!

My friends and I are just getting to the age where some of us are having babies. I am continually impressed by their creative with some of the photos they post. An imaginative baby photo is so much more fun to look at…and just think of how cool it will be for them when they get older.

The baby in the cowboy boots is adorable! Definitely reminds me of an Anne Geddes photo. Could be a little scary if the boots topple over but we won’t worry about that.

I love babies! I just had a baby girl last August and I am so thrilled. She is so beautiful. I can’t believe I have actually brought another person into this world. I am also thrilled that the birth announcement cards shown on this page are available. I wasn’t aware of this great idea with my first child but you can bet that I will come up with a creative one for my next child. I especially loved the pumpkin one!

I personally love the idea of designing and creating your own photos for baby cards! The image of the baby inside boots is adorable and I like the way the newborn contrasts against something old and worn. The photos really say it all in cards or announcements like these!

The Halloween photo gave me an idea for a Valentines Day photo, which is the day my little girl came into the world. Perhaps a huge chocolate heart with a picture of Tessie smack in the middle. Thanks.

My daughter was born while my husband was overseas with the Marines. He was unable to come home for 6 months. However, he left a pair of his old combat boots that didn’t fit anymore in our closet. I thought it was a great idea to use them in our daughter’s photoshoot for her annoucement photo. My husband loved the idea and thought it was so adorable to see his little angel in his combat boots <3

Your baby photo ideas are great, but nothing grabbed me like the photo card of the baby in the carved pumpkin! That is just so sweet and cute. Whoever thought of that is a Halloween wizard, truly!
