Most Romantic Movie Proposals

by Emma W.R. on January 7, 2015

Every girl dreams about the day of her proposal. We go through hundreds of scenarios in hundreds of locations under hundreds of different lighting conditions wearing hundreds of different outfits. Some of these dreams come from our favorite movie theatre proposals. We asked around our office and below are our Top 5 favorite Movie proposals.

  1. When Harry Met Sally – Who can forget the moment Harry finally admits his love for Sally? Racing to meet her before midnight on New Year’s Eve. One of our favorite quotes “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” Gets us every time!
  2. Runaway Bride – The famous reverse proposal. After running out on four different men before him, and then running out on Ike himself, Maggie realizes her true love for him and actually comes back to him and proposes. A beautiful moment.Runaway_Bride
  3. A Walk to Remember – With Jamie dying of leukemia, Landon, who Jamie warned not to fall in love with her due to her illness, fell in love anyway. They proceed to fulfill every item listed on her bucket list including getting married in the same chapel where her parents did. The ultimate tear jerker.Walk_To_Remember
  4. Love, Actually – After moving to his French cottage to recover from a broken heart, Jamie falls in love with his Portuguese housekeeper Aurelia. Unfortunately Aurelia only speaks Portuguese. This doesn’t stop Jamie, who after moving back to England begins to learn Portuguese and then returns to France to propose to Aurelia in her native language. Oofa.Love_Actually
  5. The Wedding Singer – Adam Sandler isn’t known for his romantic side but this movie pulled no punches. With Julia already sitting aboard her flight to Las Vegas to marry her current fiancé, Robbie gets on to serenade her with his personalized song “Grow Old With You” to convince her to choose him. It has become one of the most popular wedding songs around after this movie came out.Wedding_Singer

I loved Runaway Bride! Julia Roberts and Richard Gere can do no wrong together!

These are great! I also liked “Crazy, Stupid Love” with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Steve Cattrel was also in this one. I’m a sucker for romantic comedies.

Not a proposal, but I love love love the scene in Sense and Sensibilities when Hugh Grant’s character tells Emma Thompson’s Ms Dashwood that he loves her. “My heart is, and always will be, yours”. Sigh.

There can never be enough romantic movies, every time I see a proposal it makes me cry. It doesn’t even have to be over the top, any proposal will do. I’m such a romantic.

The best example of how to go from really, really bad to enchanting? Mr Darcy’s first and second proposals to Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice.
