Share the Good News with Save the Date Cards

by Emma W.R. on September 23, 2014

It’s currently six months to your wedding date. You have the venue booked, engagement photos taken, and the DJ and Photographer are both lined up. Now it’s time to send out your Save the Date cards. These Save the Dates serve the obvious purpose of letting your guests know the date, but they also let certain people they know they are invited. Your fringe friend from college who you are only inviting because you need to meet the minimum number of guests in order to have your reception at your dream venue may not necessarily know they will be getting that invite after hearing of your engagement.

Save the Dates can be done in various ways…from magnets to cards to an email. Hint: Do not use an email for your Save the Dates. I have always loved the look and flexibility of cards as Save the Dates. Magnets always end up seeming so flimsy to me.

Once you’ve decided which style you want for the card, you have to decide which picture you want to use. There are two main routes I would prefer to not stray far from… creative or composed. Every once in a while you get cards that are strange, scary, or awkward. Those are all areas I would try to avoid.

For a creative Save the Date card, try to show a part of yourself rather than just sending out what you think other people will find creative. If you can’t think of something creative to do that doesn’t fit you, then don’t do it. Go with the composed route. A composed Save the Date card is all about choosing the best picture from your engagement shoot. Find one that shows how much you care about each other and it will turn out perfect.

I got a scratch-off save the date from a family friend… Cute, but where’s the pictures??? What do you do with a scratch-off once you scratch??

Nice save the date and great photo. I ordered my save the dates from Cherishables and got so many compliments from my guests. And I already have my thank you cards picked when I’m ready to order!

There are so many unique save the dates now. It is especially nice when a photo is included. People really go all out for weddings these days.

I love seeing how creative people can get with their save the dates, but I also love getting to see a photo or two from their engagement session!
