Why You Should Have A Non-Traditional Wedding

by Emma W.R. on January 5, 2015

I’ve always been a free spirit. I’ve marched to the beat of my own drum. When it comes to my wedding day, I picture something out of the ordinary. No stuffy church or lackluster sit down formal dinner for me! It’s going to be the most exciting day of my life and I want to celebrate with a bang. Be true to yourself and spend this day how you’ve always dreamed. It’s your fantasy so live it!

I have attended many weddings that are beautiful but lack that sense of enchantment. I want myself and my guests to feel like they stepped into my very own story book fairy tale. Couples today decide to get wed while sky diving, underwater, on beaches or in a charming garden. Museums, libraries and stadiums have become the hot spot for hosting weddings. I respect people being themselves and having that special day and not the run of the mill festivity.

Today brides are not wearing white or the typical dress you would expect either. Any color goes. Along with cowboy boots and the most elaborate costumes imaginable. From the ceremony to the decorations on the table, choose what makes you smile. Don’t give in to proper anymore and throw a carnival of you and your partner’s dreams. It will be both memorable and unique to you as the new couple.

I wore custom made Converse sneakers for my wedding. They were white with rhinestones and pearls adhered to them. My husband’s grandmothers were not pleased with my choice, but guess who’s feet felt fine the day after the wedding?!? haha

I would love to have a “Grease” themed wedding! My fiancé would probably hate the suggestion but from what I’ve heard…Happy wife, happy life. And that would make me happy.

Instead of a wedding, we eloped to Disney World… got married in shorts and dined at Ihop. No regrets!

I know someone who had a Halloween wedding, wore black and everything. A little out of the norm, but you should do whatever you want for your wedding!

I think a movie themed wedding would be awesome. I would love to get married on a boat named Jenny like the movie “Forest Gump.” At the reception, endless shrimp!

People get so crazy with weddings these days that I’m actually more surprised when I go to one that is traditional!

I think it’s wonderful that people want to be so creative. However, I think weddings should remain traditional with a white or off white colored gown and grown in tux and tie. In my opinion, you can go crazy with your theme at the reception but certainly not at the alter.

If you want to have a Halloween themed wedding more power to you! I personally don’t want a traditional wedding but I don’t think I’ll be going too far from the norm.
